Mely’s visit to Miami 1970s

Karen:

This is the one I promised you, when Mely brought you, Steve and Nikki down to Miami. You guys had a nice tan from the sunshine state. The hotel you stayed at South Beach (‘Betsy Ross’) back then was like $20 or $30 a nite. Right now it runs $200 during low season. Apparently, you had had more sun than you could handle, cuz you collapsed in the couch.

  1. I should clarify. This pic was taken in my house.
I think I may have one of the Betsy Ross Hotel somewhere another time that Mely visited.
I’ll search to see if I find it. It has gone so “big-time” remodeling in the past years.

  2. Love the pout! What a brat I was on that trip. I can remember Grandma giving me lectures on how I should behave like Stevie & Nickki.

On this trip, I learned how to swim with those blow up swim things in the hotel pool, remember the flocked rabbits that Grandma got me (anything to shut me up! :-), & those awesome sugarcane drinks from in town. I also remember being frustrated that I couldn’t understand what anybody was talking about because everybody mostly spoke in Spanish :-) Thanks for keeping the e.mail train in English so I can enjoy the fun.

  3. Wow. These pictures are great. It is startling to see how much Karen and my daughter Megan look a like. Attached is a picture of Megan when she was a similar age. (Also, attached is a picture of my daughter Megan, my brother Kevin, My wife Terry, and Me)

    Love to all

  4. Hi Family!

What fun memories! I have very fond memories of the sugarcane smoothies, too! I forget what they’re called. I thought they were called guanabos, but that’s a town. I also remember the HUGE bugs, eeek! Here’s a picture of Jackie, Lucas and me at the beach on the other coast while visiting Steve, Robyn and Ada.

    Love, Nikki
