Kids: This is really sad for me. Elly was a great person. She was at the Florida City camp with me after we arrived here. Some of you might remember the person that I called to get directions when I was trying to locate the FC camp back in 1998 on our trip to Florida. Mom also met her at a Pedro Pan dinner in Washington a couple of years ago. It just seems like yesterday when we were kids. Love, Dad.From: [email protected]: ;Subject: 47th Celebration Dinner Event Date: Sun, 7 Oct 2007 15:08:51 -0400O P E R A T I O N P E D R O P A N G R O U P, INC.Dear Pedro Pan:The sudden death of our beloved founder, Elly Chovel, has stunned us and it has filled us with sorrow. Ely was instrumental in bringing the name Pedro Pan and its associated children’s flight history to the world. She was full of life and a giver of herself to others. We will miss her.

I have spoken to our current and past board members, to its trustees and to multiple members and the answer have been unanimously we will continue working together to continue Elly’s work with Operation Pedro Pan. There are still unaccompanied children, like we were, that need our help. You can help by continuing to be a member and supporting the organization. We will continue to help the unaccompanied children around the world because we ALL know how they feel and what they are going through. We will continue the mission and multiple activities of Operation Pedro Pan Group, Inc.

The Board unanimously agreed to hold our annual dinner gala on November 17th at the Coral Gables Country Club. An announcement of an annual event honoring the memory of Elly will be made during the gala. Hon. Eduardo Aguirre, Jr, the United States Ambassador to Spain and his wife who both happen to be Pedro Panes will be the guests of honor. Do not miss this very important event to honor Elly’s memory and Ambassador Aguirre.

You will be getting an invitation in the near future with additional information for the gala. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend our 47th celebration dinner event.
