OK you are so…warm. Go about another 70 feet due north and 5 feet to the right, (I think your point was still on the street) . you’ll be touching the SW corner of the property where the office was, in the corner of Calle 484 and Ave. 1 A. Continuing on a straight line on Calle 484 towards the beach , another 15 feet behind the office was your Grandma and Grandpa Linde’s bedroom – This was our family’s living quarters when it was very busy in the summer- Grandpa Linde wanted to stay close to the business then. In the off season- we would move to a big cottage type place on the second floor near the east side of the hotel.- We rented it out during the high season. It was a great view of the ocean from up there. Continuing another 20 feet past our parents bedroom was our bedroom- your father’s and mine, another 20 feet you’d find our bathroom (a small kitchen and a small dining area were to the right of the bathroom extending out to the patio). The patio separated the one story side of the property where we were from the 2nd. story side of it. Along the same side of the street past our living quarters were a series of casetas, about six of them-that’s what those customers who didn’t want to stay in a room rented and where they could change clothes and lock their belongings. There were showers and restrooms for them to use in another area of the building. Our property consisted of 60 casetas , 10 rooms, the summer cottage, the bar, restaurant and its kitchen but I’m just describing the side by Calle 484 to give you an idea where we were in relationship to the beach. Those six casetas and a large store shed added another 60-70 feet. Then came la cantina (the bar) where your father used to run the cash register on Sundays in the summer – that was another 50 feet. continuing in the same straight line to the beach came the restaurant floor, another 50 feet on that side and finally – sandy beach . A sidewalk ran the entire length of that side of the hotel between it and Calle 484, parallel to the west side of our property Our hotel also extended about 70 feet to the east where another hotel was. You’ve seen Mari’s E-Mails- her family’s hotel was called Hotel La Concha and was next to ours but on the west side of Calle 484.. I’ll describe the rest of our Casino de la Concha some other time. Although our name was Casino de la Concha- there was no gambling- In Spanish the word Casino also means a type of inn (derives from “casa”. Our neighbors to the south across from Ave 1 A had a gamblig cacino bar though, named Regalias. It had a swinging salsa band that played until late at night in the week-ends. Luckilly- I didn’t have school in the summer or I would have been a little red eyed on Monday mornings. This was 30 minutes from Havana in its heyday after all. Our family worked very hard about 4 or 5 months out of the year, then things really slowed down. Cubans don’t go to the beach very much after August and before May. You mostly saw North American and European tourists. Anyway Steven, Yep, you found the place. Love, Uncle José.
